Lala's Jazz kicks off its 2026 Local Feature series with the Midnight Jazz Cats, a spirited five-piece ensemble that blends traditional and contemporary jazz with infectious energy. The group—anchored by founding members Dr. Lloyd Blake on drums and vocals and Dr. Mark Stolpe on upright bass—rounds out with keyboardist Bob Phillips, multi-reed player Bill Shepherd, and guitarist Blake Olson, who also contributes train whistle for unexpected sonic flavor. Since forming in 2022, they've built a reputation for high-spirited performances that showcase vocal harmonies alongside instrumental prowess.
